Green Building Guidelines
Overview
Contra Costa County has adopted these Green Building Guidelines as a vital informational resource that can help encourage local homeowners and builders to use green building materials and techniques for residential projects. They contain cost-effective suggestions to minimize construction-related waste, create healthier and more durable homes, reduce operating costs for homeowners and support local manufacturers and suppliers of resource-efficient building materials.
The Bay Area cities or counties that have established Green Building Programs almost exclusively use these residential Green Building Guidelines, as well as the associated
GreenPoint checklist and
GreenPoint Rated system. The Home Builders Association of Northern California publicly
endorsed these green building guidelines as a mandatory standard for Bay Area cities and counties in January 2008. These Guidelines were orginally created for Alameda County and are now updated and maintained by Bay Area Build It Green.
