Supervisor Gioia is chair of the Doctors Medical Center Joint Powers Authority, which oversees the center. He was actively involved in efforts to pull the medical center out of bankruptcy (achieved in Spring 2008), and to solidify its future on sound fiscal footing. As one of two full-service hospitals serving the people of West County, Doctors is vital to the area's emergency medical care safety net.
