The new Emergency Operations Center/Public Safety Building will be equipped with state-of-the-art disaster management and public safety technology. Sheriff’s Administration, Fiscal, Personnel, and Emergency Services will also be located in this building. The two-story, 38,000-square foot building is designed to operate independently during an emergency if city utilities become unavailable. On March 26, 2018, Contra Costa County selected the design-build team of Hensel Phelps and Dreyfuss + Blackford Architecture to complete this project. The new building is scheduled for completion in March 2020.

March stormed through with the completion of the installation of the pre-cast panels and welding inspections will complete the first of next month. Deferred submittals continue to be a focus of the HP Design team. Bulletin 5 and the conformed plans were delivered in March. Metal decking and all of the welding of the decking to the structural steel reached completion and required welding inspections took place. Focus is now on priority wall framing installation for the first floor. Wall layout was precipitated and completed in the month of March. Above ceiling fire sprinkler piping installation was completed on the first floor some mechanical ducting in the chase was installed. Above ceiling electrical conduit continues on both the first and second floor. Primer for the structural steel reached its conclusion just in time for the pre-cast panels, all applied with rollers. Break tests both 7 day and 28-day results all have had great results reaching all strengths and better. Welding inspections of the pre-cast attachment plates is ongoing. The site continues to look well organized and clean. Safety on site has been exemplary and this team has sent the craft home safely to their loved ones each and every day.
