On July 26th, Flood Control District staff joined up with volunteers from Friends of Marsh Creek to perform three trash assessments in East County. For the past five years the Flood Control District has performed annual trash assessments at six different locations throughout Contra Costa County to monitor trash levels in our local waterways. Other Bay Area cities, counties, and flood control agencies do the same so we can develop a better picture of the health of the Bay Area’s creeks, rivers, Bay, and Delta.
We had volunteers from Freedom High School, Delta Vista Middle School, recent graduates from Dozier Libby High School, as well as a group from a local church. We’d like to thank them so much for their help. Cleaning up our waters is an enormous undertaking and the help and support of local volunteers is absolutely invaluable.
